Rio
Claro Guided Tour
|

|
Description:
A short distance north of Bahia Paraiso Rain forest
Lodge, the clear, blue-green fresh water of the Rio
Claro (or Clear River) flows into the Pacific. We offer
a guided nature walk to this marvelous destination. You
will be able to swim in sweet water and then slowly and
safely float into the salt-water reception of the ocean.
(As a separate tour, it is also possible to arrange for
a boat or kayak expedition up river). The walk to and
from Rio Claro is as much an experience as the river
itself, as you walk along the shoreline path next to
magnificent coastal reefs and secluded coves, on one
side, and towering tropical growth, on the other side,
you are in awe of how incredibly beautiful all of this
is.
Attractions: Shoreline trails, under a canopy of
rain forest and beside beautiful corral rock and secret
coves, where you see, hear and smell the ocean in
interaction with this bio-diverse tropical paradise; a
fresh water oasis; heliconias, orchids, wild gingers,
ferns; strangle fig trees; kapok trees "ceibo de
playa"; yellow mom bin trees (the fruit of which is
one of the most desired by many of the inhabitants of
the rain forest); beach almond trees (the favorite fruit
of the Scarlet Macaws); cow's tongue plants; hanging
vines, lianas and much, much more.
Routing: We start down by the beach and head
north to the rocky point, where the strangle fig trees
are found, turn inland and then north again, bordering
the ocean all the way. We will walk up and down small
hills and ravines until we reach the sandy beach between
the Rio Claro River and the ocean. After the rest and
swim at Rio Claro, we will come back the same way.
Timing: The hike from Bahia Paraiso to Rio Claro
will take approximately one hour with various stops
along the way to appreciate all the bio-diversity. We
will remain at Rio Claro for one and a half hours and
the hike back will take about half an hour. Total of 3.5
hours.
Includes: Specialized naturalist guide,
refreshments and fruits at Rio Claro.
