Here you can find a list of the most frequently asked questions here at Bahia Paraiso Rain Forest Lodge.

  • Who should come to Bahia Paraiso Rain Forest Lodge?

Anyone should come who loves rare natural beauty in a pristine and comfortable setting, where telephones and rush hour traffic are far, far away. Come visit if you are a nature lover, birder, beachcomber, writer, artist, photographer, vacationer, horse rider, scientist, hiker, diver, fisherman, snorkeler, etc.

  • How do I get to Bahia Paraiso?

From San Jose, Costa Rica, you will fly to the Palmar Sur airstrip from where a 20 minute taxi ride will bring you to the river-town of Sierpe on the banks of the Rio Sierpe. In Sierpe town you will be met by an experienced boat captain who will pilot you along the beautiful mangrove swamps and through the mouth of the Sierpe, into the beautiful, blue Pacific Ocean. Traveling south, along the coast, across Drake Bay, you will reach Bahia Paraiso. Total boat travel time is approximately one hour and fifteen minutes. Click here for more information.

  • How much luggage should I bring and what?

In general, you will need to minimize your luggage, due to the limited space on planes and boats (12 kilos / 25 lbs per person). Bring the following:
• Light rain gear
• Lightweight, loose-fitting shorts and T-shirts
• Bathing suits
• Long-sleeve shirts and pants for horse riding/evening
• Beach sandals/shoes
• Hiking shoes/boots
• Sun block lotion
• Insect repellent
• Flashlight with extra batteries
• Binoculars, camera, film
• Personal toiletries
• Hat and sunglasses
• Plastic bags for clothes and zip lock bags for wallet, passport, etc.

  • Weather?

During the summer season (December to April), you can expect the occasional, brief afternoon rain shower. The winter season (May to November) is known as the "green season" due to the greater level of rain. Overall, the rain forests and ocean create a warm, humid climate during the day with cooler temperatures in the evening and at night.

  • Electricity?

Electricity is produced by a generator and is limited to basic lighting and fans. Please leave your hair dryer at home. Personal flashlights are useful to help guide you around the premises at night.

  • Is your water drinkable (potable)?

The tap water is provided by wells and springs but is not potable. We provide pitchers of filtered potable drinking water in your rooms and restaurant. There is also plenty of bottled water for sale at the bar.
